Pre coloured finishes such as K-Rend, and Render supplied by Monocouche, Weber, Sto and others, have become popular in recent times. They are often marketed as maintenance free, but due to the damp climate there are many examples of buildings becoming soiled and dirty.

This obviously makes the building looked tired and uncared for, but unless the Render is cleaned and treated, the organic growths can cause mechanical damage to the surface, resulting in expensive remedial treatment.

Why Clean Render?

Cleaning the through coloured Render rather than over-painting is not only cost-effective, but will produce much better, and longer-lasting results. Painting over organic growth will only seal in the pollutants and could result in mechanical damage.

Our low-pressure, high-volume Render cleaning is sympathetic to the substrate, and effectively targets the cause of the staining, by killing the spores and sanitising the surface. Further treatments can be applied that continue to work over time and will ensure that the Render stays clean for longer.

We provide a FREE CONSULTATION either by a site visit or by examining client-supplied photographs, to plan an effective and safe method of cleaning the Render. We have more than 30 years of experience in the cleaning industry and only use products and techniques that will not damage the surface material, whilst producing the desired results.

Clean as a Whistle use the “Softwash” method to clean Render. This is where a product mix is applied at low pressure, but at a high flow rate, which enables the product to address the cause of the discolouration and staining. Because the spores of algae, moss, lichen and other organic matter are removed, the Render is not only cleaned but will remain clean for longer than using other methods.

Please note that the use of high pressure methods is not recommended by manufacturers. This practice will drive water and moisture into the surface which can freeze, and cause mechanical damage. Water and moisture also encourage organic growth, which is a main cause of staining.

Many companies will use high pressure washing to remove the stains, but this can damage the substrate by driving moisture deep into the render.

These aggressive techniques don’t remove the infection, and the organic growth often returns quickly.

At Clean as a Whistle we use a process known as Softwashing.

We use our low pressure unit to gently, but effectively treat the cause of the discolouration, killing the spores and restoring the surface to an as new condition.

This eliminates the need for painting, and buildings that have been cleaned with the Softwashing method remain clean for longer.
